The Cofán people are one of the most iconic indigenous cultures of the Amazon. As custodians of a profound knowledge of the jungle, they have kept their traditions, their language and their spiritual connection with nature alive over the centuries. Their way of life is based on respect for the environment, wisdom passed down through generations and a close relationship with the rivers and the rainforest.
Visiting a Cofán community offers a unique opportunity to discover an authentic culture, learn about their worldview and enjoy an enriching experience in close contact with the Amazon rainforest.
The territory of the Cofán people is located in the province of Sucumbíos, in the northern part of the Ecuadorian Amazon, near the border with Colombia. Their communities are situated along major Amazonian rivers, particularly in areas close to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, one of the country’s most biodiverse regions.
